1.) Artists make portraits in order to express or visualize a certain group or person. Other than showing the visual representation of a person, a portrait can also show things that might be hidden or hard to express.
2.) Communities are a social unit with some sort of communality amongst its members. The can share some kind of space, such as a geographical area. 3.) Some communities that I might interact with/belong to are, my neighborhood and school communities. 4.) A lot of the portraits that the artist creates contains groups of men such as, brothers and, father and son. The artist mostly paints black men and she is inspired by her brother who is a black man and some of the experiences he has. 5.) The communities that Jordan Casteel engages with in the video can be described as being miss understood and can face prejudice. The people also seem to be very willing in being involved with Jordan Casteel's work. 6.) The bodies and gestures in her work convey the different people that she paints and how not all of them are exactly the same, they have different features and shapes. 7.) Jordan Casteel's portraits of nude models are usually contain a single person in them and the main focus is drawn onto the person, while the clothed ones can contain other people and the focus in more broad.

Artists can and professionals can learn about new ideas, processes and strategies by looking at their environment and their experiences for ideas and inspiration, along with work from other people which can bring about new ideas. They can also put themselves in a position to experience and learn new things that they don’t know much about. When do exploration and experimentation become art? Experimentation is an important part of art because it allows for artists to test out different things to make their artwork the best they can. Exploration is also important for art because it allows for new and even unconventional ideas and projects to be formed. How does Drew perform "investigations"? What do his investigations look like? The Artist in the video performed investigations by experimenting with different materials and styles to convey an even stronger message. This was done by trying out various different materials and objects that had connections to the artists life. How do the materials used to make sculpture influence the meaning of the work? For example, what do we associate with materials such as wood and cotton? Materials used in a sculpture can help better convey the theme of the work. This is because certain materials often can be associated with other activities or events. They can help add another dimension to the message that the artist is trying to express. How have they influenced his process and artwork? Artists work with restrictions and rules by modifying their ideas to fit the criteria. Restrictions can help form ideas because it can give the artist a general direction making the idea forming process easier. Leonardo Drew works with self-imposed restrictions by changing things about his work to fit his restrictions such as weathering the material he uses in the artwork. He bought materials that were new and then made them look older or more worn out so that they could be used in his art piece. |
